According to Trade-schools.net, here are those most in-demand, several of which do not require a 4-year degree, along with their average pay per hour:
- Truck Driver – $22/hour
- College or Vocational Instructor – $38/hour
- Aircraft Pilot – $39/hour
- Business Management Consultant – $36/hour
- Welder – $25/hour
- Industrial Electrician – $33/hour
- Occupational or Physiotherapy Assistant – $23/hour
- License Practical Nurse – $26/hour
- Steamfitter/Pipefitter – $36/hour
- Construction Estimator – $31/hour
- Veterinary Technician or Assistant – $18/hour
- Dispensing Optician – $24/hour
Where 4-year degrees and higher are required:
- Software Engineer or Designer – $43/hour
- Aerospace Engineer – $39/hour
- Pharmacist – $50/hour
- Psychologist – $40/hour
- Registered Nurse – $38/hour
In a CBC news article, it is also noted that while several skilled trades occupations have experience upwards of 25-38% growth, other occupations experienced growth of only 15% in the 10-year period to 2018. And some sources expect that trades in the Agriculture and Construction industries will be in very high demand through 2029 given numbers retiring in that period.
